Thanks to perseverance by the Alexander Family, dedicated staff and the support of Peter Jackson, 2016 saw 468,107 visitors from over 100 different countries, with international revenue growing 339% in the past three years. The Hobbiton Movie set has become an essential stop for Lord of the Rings and Hobbit fans from across the globe.

Marketing targets mostly international visitors with the top six being Australia, China, United Kingdom, United States, United States, Germany and France.

Hobbiton Movie Set is an essential stop on the itinerary for all visitors travelling through New Zealand, offering guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in the sights, smells, sounds and tastes of The Shire. Visitors are able to see the iconic movie set in its full glory, from wandering the rambling paths of The Shire, to seeing the submerged Hobbit holes that are nestled into the rolling hillsides. With the perseverance of the Alexander family and the support of Peter Jackson the team has worked tirelessly to realise this vision of Middle Earth here in New Zealand.
